The story behind Sue Carson Saddles
Sue was faced with the problems of poorly fitting saddles, she knew there had to
be an answer, and there was... Sue Carson Saddles was born!
Sue Carson grew up in the picturesque Derbyshire Dales and was surrounded by a very non-horsey family. However all this was to change. Sue's instant love of horses meant that her family was soon to be heavily involved with her equestrian pursuits.
Sue started riding at 4 years of age at a local riding school, she was instantly hooked! By 9, Sue had her own pony called Frenchie and started competing on the Pony Club circuits. Her dad, Gordon, supported this by opening a tack shop at their Car Sales showroom.
Sue quickly became a formidable opponent with her Pony Club activities, she jumped, showed, evented and even rode side-saddle! Nothing was too much of a challenge for Sue.
She also became interested in helping to exercise and train the horses that a dealer, employed by Gordon had, she would ride anything. During all of these early years Sue was amassing a wealth of knowledge.
Sue went on to have a fully diverse competition record, being successful in any discipline she chose, also becoming the youngest judge on the BSPS panel and teaching for the Pony Club too.
When Sue had to make her life decisions when leaving school, she opted to go to Brooksby College to study as a Farm Secretary.
Meeting many new friends Sue became fully involved with college life.
Sue then went on to work in recruitment and head hunting, however the equestrian passion was ever present.
Gordon, Sues father was instrumental with the formation of Sue Carson Saddles, he became a BSJA judge and gained a wealth of knowledge and connections running the tack shop.
Sue started to realise that there was often a problem with finding saddles to fit horses especially ones that were also comfortable for the rider. She simply could not find one that she liked, so with her father made a trip to Walsall and became one of the first companies to use the air system and stick with it.
The rest, as they say, is history!
